Investigation into Incident at 9700 State Highway 225

September 25, 2015 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which a male suspect died in the presence of Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables at 9700 State Highway 225 about 10:50 a.m. on Thursday (Sept. 24).

The identity and cause of death of the suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Elsbury and Senior Police Officer T. Tyler reported:

Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables were notified of a possible stolen pickup truck.  After locating the Ford F-250 and determining it had been reported stolen, the deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  However, the suspect fled from the deputies.  The pursuit ended in the 9700 block of State Highway 225 when the suspect drove the pickup truck down an embankment and partially into Sims Bayou.

The suspect then got out of the pickup truck and attempted to flee by swimming across the bayou.  Deputies observed him go under water and not resurface.  A deputy then entered the water and attempted to rescue the suspect.  When the deputy was unable to locate the suspect, the HPD Dive Team was called to the scene and subsequently recovered the suspect's body.

As is customary when a suspect dies in the presence of law enforcement authorities within the city limits, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.
