Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 8500 Sands Point


April 12, 2016 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 8500 Sands Point about 11 p.m. on Monday (April 11).

The victim, James Weldon Ecford, 25, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Simmons and Officer S. Overstreet reported:

Mr. Ecford's mother was exiting her vehicle at the above address when she was approached from behind by a male suspect who grabbed her purse and ran towards a white four-door vehicle.  The woman's mother screamed for help and her son, Ecford, came outside and chased the suspect.  The two fought and the suspect produced a gun and shot Ecford.  A second shot was fired at Ecford's mother but missed her.  The suspect then got into the back seat of the waiting vehicle and the driver then fled the scene.  The mother reported seeing a total of four black males (including the shooter) inside the vehicle.
