Armed Suspect Fatally Shot at 16250 Imperial Valley


December 8, 2016 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed male suspect was fatally shot by an HPD officer at 16250 Imperial Valley at about 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday (December 7).

The identity of the male suspect is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officer J. Salazar, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident. Officer Salazar, assigned to the Tactical Operations Division, was sworn in as an officer in February 1996.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Holbrook and Senior Police Officer J. Roscoe reported:

Members of the Houston Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) were assisting members of the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, Houston Police Department Robbery Division and the FBI in the apprehension of aggravated robbery suspects.  As SWAT personnel were attempting to arrest the suspect, the suspect exited his vehicle with a long rifle.  Officer Salazar, in fear of his life, discharged his weapon and shot the suspect.  The suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents inside the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
