Investigation into Fatal Crash at 7300 Eastex Freeway


December 27, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 7300 Eastex Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) at about 7:24 p.m. on Thursday (December 22).

The identity of the female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer A. Mares reported:

The driver of a blue Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling southbound on the Eastex Freeway when he struck the victim, who was attempting to cross the roadway.  The driver continued traveling southbound but then made a u-turn and returned to the scene to wait for responding police. The victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  

According to witnesses there was a possible additional vehicle that struck the victim prior to the blue pick-up truck.  The driver of the pick-up was evaluated at the scene for intoxication and submitted to a blood draw.

No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
