The Administrative Office of City Council (AOCC) serves all administrative duties for Houston City Council. Although the office serves City Council, it is a division of the Finance Department.

Vernita Jones
Assistant Director

Performs a wide variety of complex administrative duties required by the daily operation of the 16 City Council Members. Preserves confidentiality of sensitive material routinely encountered as part of work assignments; develops and recommends office procedures and systems; ensure smooth office operations; plan, coordinate City Council special events.  Evaluate assigned staff; plan, prioritize, assign, and review the workflow of the office; receive, review and evaluate mail to identify those items requiring priority attention of the City Council. Act as department front-line representative who provides information; build and maintain positive working relationships with City Council Staff, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service; and perform related duties as assigned. Monitors and reviews the annual budget for each City Council Office; keep each office advised as to their monthly expenditures to assure that they stay within their annual budget. Before serving the City of Houston , Vernita Jones worked for 22 years at Conoco Phillips as a Financial Analyst.

Merrick Hamilton
Serves as an Administrative Assistant. His primary duty is receptionist for City Council. He screens calls and visitors, and refer inquires as appropriate; respond to complaints and requests for information regarding the City Council floor. He is the liaison for IT related issues, and a liaison between constituents and Council. Maintains the calendar for City Council presentations.

Gregory Cunningham
Gregory serves the position of financial analyst for City Council and also serves as IT, CityNet, HTV, and General Services Liaison.  He maintains the calendar for council presentations and conference rooms, processes new hires and interns, and handles open records requests.  He is assisting city council offices in electronic records management and storage.

Alejandra Ruiz
Serves as the Human Resource liaison for City Council and their staff. She handles payroll, purchasing, and other administrative duties as needed.
