Mayor Turner with Pete ButtigiegLegislative Advocacy - Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

Early in the Biden Administration, Mayor Turner met with Secretary Buttigieg along with members of the Climate Mayors in Washington to discuss how Mayors could support the efforts of the Administration on efforts like electric vehicle adoption. Those discussions help lay the groundwork for the deployment of electric vehicle charging stations.

On many fronts, Houston has established and maintained a successful relationship with the Department of Transportation on many of its competitive grants and programs offered in the both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act) and Inflation Reduction Act. Like several other cabinet officials, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is no stranger to the City of Houston.

On September 13, 2022, Mayor Turner joined Secretary Buttigieg at Bush Intercontinental Airport along with Congressman Green, Garcia, and Jackson Lee to announce a $43 million competitive grant for 24 gates at Bush & Hobby airports. These facility improvements will fund passenger facing infrastructure like upgrading restrooms and resources for enhanced ADA compliance.
