Age

The population living inside Loop 610 has grown increasingly older (18 years of age and older) and has families with fewer children. This trend is also seen in Houston as a whole. The working age population (18-64 years of age) increased steadily since 1970 despite the oil bust of the 1980s which drove many residents to seek employment outside of Houston. Loop 610 has experienced a slow but continual drop in school age children (under the age of 18) since 1960. The senior citizen population grew at a similar proportion within Loop 610 as in the city overall.
