Fatal Traffic Accident at 3100 Gulf Freeway

November 16, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 3100 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 6:55 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 13).

The female victim, Anna Olivarez, 79, of Houston, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Spencer and Officer M. Reyes reported:

The three vehicles involved in the accident, a Chevrolet Impala, a Ford Focus and a Subaru Outback, were all traveling northbound in the 3100 block of the Gulf Freeway when the Subaru came to complete stop due to heavy traffic ahead. The driver of the Ford was following directly behind and also came to a complete stop. At that time, the driver of the Chevrolet changed lanes and rear-ended the Ford, which then struck the Subaru. The back passenger of the Ford, Ms. Olivarez, was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was ticketed for failure to control speed and did not show any signs of intoxication.

The investigation is continuing.
