Suspect Arrested in Shooting at 11320 Beechnut

November 23, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of two men at 11320 Beechnut about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 22).

The suspect, Deanthony Simon (b/m, DOB: 4-7-92), is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 228th State District Court.

Joshua Burnett Willis, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was treated and released from Ben Taub General Hospital. The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and back and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant L.A. Flores and Senior Police Officer P.J. Guerrero reported:

Officers responded to a call at the Breakers After-Hours Club. When officers arrived at the location, they found the victims in the parking lot. Witnesses reported that Simon had entered the club and began shooting at patrons, hitting both Mr. Willis and the second victim. When Simon’s gun jammed, he attempted to flee the club but patrons detained him and began to assault him. Security personnel at the club were then able to gain control until HPD officers arrived. Simon was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
