Fatal Traffic Accident at 7800 Tierwester

September 21, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 7800 Tierwester about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 19).

The victim, a four-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer J. Lin reported:

The girl had returned home with her mother and was standing outside the family's Chevrolet Trailblazer on a private drive. As her mother closed the passenger's side door, the little girl ran around the vehicle and was struck by a Mercury Mountaineer SUV.

The driver of the Mountaineer said he did not see the child. He immediately stopped his vehicle after hearing the impact. The girl's mother ran around her car, found her daughter and called for an ambulance.

The driver of the Mountaineer showed no signs of impairment and investigators stated speed was not a factor in the accident. At this time, no charges are expected to be filed in this case.
