Investigation Into Fatal Traffic Accident at 9200 Gulf Freeway

February 8, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 9200 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 2:20 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 6).

A driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. A third passenger was transported to Ben Taub where he was also pronounced dead. The identities of all victims are pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer D. Ashford reported:

According to witnesses, the driver and passenger of a maroon GMC Sierra pickup truck and the driver and two passengers of a GMC C15 pickup truck were both traveling northbound in the 9200 block of the Gulf Freeway service road. Witnesses stated both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed and were possibly racing each other. The driver of the Sierra lost control of his vehicle and struck a pole in a parking lot. The driver of the C15 then also lost control of the vehicle and struck a different pole, also in a parking lot. The driver of the Sierra was transported to Ben Taub in stable condition and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the C15 were also pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger in the C15 was transported to Ben Taub General hospital where he was also pronounced dead.
