Man Found Fatally Shot at 5710 West Ridgecreek

January 25, 2010 - Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a man found at 5710 West Ridgecreek about 2:50 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 23).

The victim, Wade Carlton Southerland, 36, of the above address, suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Officer P. Houghton reported:

Mr. Southerland and his wife got into a domestic dispute and she called 9-1-1 to report him as being suicidal. As patrol officers arrived at the front door of the residence, a gunshot was heard. Officers were able to remove the wife and a male child from the home, however, a nine-year-old female remained inside with Southerland. HPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) was called to the scene and, after several hours of not having contact with Southerland, they entered the residence. Southerland was found deceased and the little girl was found asleep and uninjured.
