Investigation into Male's Death at 11600 Fuqua

June 28, 2010 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a suspect taken into custody at 11600 Fuqua about 8:10 p.m. on Saturday (June 26).

The identity of the suspect, 31, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Senior Police Officer M. Waters reported:

Patrol officers were dispatched to a Traffic Hazard- Urgent call involving a male in the street. Officers responded and located the male matching the description. The male displayed aggression and had stripped his clothes, consistent with someone high on PCP. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he violently fought the officers. Officers called for medical attention and Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived to check on the male.

The male was unresponsive and appeared to be in cardiac arrest. He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy and determine the cause and manner of death.

As is customary in in-custody death incidents involving HPD officers in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
