Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at 7100 Bellaire

March 15, 2010 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 7100 block of Bellaire about 12:50 a.m. on Sunday (March 14).

The suspect, Norberto Antunes (H/m, DOB: 6-14-86), faces a charge of felony murder. Antunes was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The identity of the male victim, who was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and pronounced dead, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I Izaguirre and Officer E. Morgado reported:

Patrol officers were investigating a possible burglary of a motor vehicle and saw Antunes fleeing the scene in a white Cadillac Escalade. Antunes continued westbound in the 7100 block of Bellaire at a high rate of speed. The driver of a silver Toyota Tundra, with two passengers, was leaving a stop sign at the intersection of Larkwood and Bellaire when the pickup truck was struck by the Escalade. The Escalade then crossed a grassy median into oncoming traffic. One of the passengers in the Tundra (the victim) was ejected. The driver of the Tundra was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition and the other passenger of the Toyota was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in an unknown condition. A passenger in the Escalade was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in an unknown condition.
