Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 6417 Helmers

November 23, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6417 Helmers about 7:25 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 21).

The male victim, 31, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.C. Williams and Officer M.A. Khan reported:

A group of males was talking to a clerk at the Helmer’s Food Store when a second group of three males exited the store and began to antagonize the first group of men. The two groups of males exchanged words and the second group of men assaulted the first group. A member in the second group of males called an unknown suspect who then arrived in a black SUV and fired shots at the first group of men. The victim was shot in the chest.

The suspect is described only as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, bald or with short hair, with a large build.
