Suspect Arrested, Charged In July 2009 Fatal Shooting

April 20, 2010 - Houston police homicide investigators have arrested one suspect and are seeking at least one other in the fatal shooting of a man at 2700 North Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 North) on July 17, 2009.

Christopher Lupeio Garcia (H/m, DOB: 6-4-88) is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court in the killing of Isaias Valdez III, 33, of Houston. Mr. Valdez suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe there is at least one other suspect involved in the shooting but have not filed any other charges at this time.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants E. Cisneros, T. D. Griffin and Senior Police Officer B. D. Evans reported:

Mr. Valdez was traveling southbound in the 2700 block of the North Freeway near Patton about 1 a.m. when, at some point, he was struck by gunfire and lost control of the vehicle. His vehicle struck and bounced off a concrete barrier and then came to a stop. Other motorists stopped to help Valdez and found he had been shot.

Further investigation developed Christopher Garcia as a suspect in Valdez’s shooting. Investigators have identified Garcia as the shooter in this case and arrested him without incident on April 14.
