April 21, 2010 - Charges are pending against a suspect shot at 5500 South Acres Drive about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday (April 20).

The suspect, Henry Hankston III (b/m, DOB: 9-22-72), suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Senior Police Officer J. Johnston reported:

A male stated he was assaulted and robbed of his vehicle by his cousin, Hankston, who he said was recently released from the penitentiary and is known to smoke crack cocaine and PCP. Hankston fled in his cousin’s vehicle and was then involved in a traffic accident. He fled the accident scene and was then involved in three other major accidents, from which he also attempted to flee from. When his vehicle became disabled, Hankston boarded a Metro bus and began assaulting the driver. A bystander, who witnessed the previous traffic accidents and the bus driver being assaulted, attempted to intervene. The suspect then began to assault the witness. The witness, who has a concealed handgun license, feared for his life and discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. The bus driver and other drivers of the vehicles hit by Hankston were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries.
