Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 2400 Tierwester

April 26, 2010 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in an incident that ended in the fatal shooting of a woman and wounding of a man at 2400 Tierwester about 4:50 p.m. on Sunday (Apr. 25).

The suspect, Richard Gregory Harrison (b/m, DOB: 8-20-62), faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is accused in a shooting incident that ended in the death of a female, 43, and wounding of a male, Oscar Leonard Harris, 56, of Houston. The identity of the female is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Biggs and Officer M. Brady reported:

The female and her brother, Harrison, pulled up to where Mr. Harris (the female’s boyfriend) was drinking beer with friends. They got out of their truck and both opened fire on Harris, who was struck one time before he got into his vehicle and retrieved a pistol. Harris returned fire and killed the female. Suspect Harrison and Harris continued to exchange gunfire until police arrived. Harris was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was treated. Harrison was not injured.

Investigators learned the female and Harris had filed assault reports against one another, one regarding an incident on Friday (Apr. 23) in which the female claimed Harris struck her in the face with a beer bottle. The other incident, Harris said, happened about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 24) when the female fired shots into his car.

The investigation is continuing.
