The composite sketch, which is attached, is of the first suspect, the shooter. He is described only as a black male, in his mid-20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 140 to 160 pounds, with a dark complexion, and matted, bushy hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.
The second suspect is described only as a black male in his mid-20s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 200 to 220 pounds, with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, and a black cap.
Charissa Powell, 3, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Willowbrook Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. A second victim, a 1-year-old boy, was wounded by bullet fragments. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening wounds.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. Cervantes reported:
The victims’ father told police that he, his wife, and the two children were getting into their car at an apartment complex on Greens Parkway when they were approached by the first suspect who demanded the keys to the vehicle. The father reported that he initially thought it was a prank, but then tried to get his family out of the vehicle. While he was doing so, the first suspect began firing at the father, who fled on foot. One bullet struck the female child in the chest.
The father said he managed to get into his vehicle as the suspect fled to one of two waiting cars. The father drove out of the apartment complex, seeking help for his children, and flagged down a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy in the 2600 block of the North Sam Houston Parkway service road. The deputy called for EMS personnel who transported both victims to local hospitals.
One suspect vehicle is described as a blue, silver, or white 1995 to 1996 Buick LeSabre. A second suspect vehicle is described as a burgundy 1996 to 1997 Ford Taurus.
