Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 600 East Fugate


January 9, 2017 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect that occurred at 600 East Fugate about 5:25 a.m. today (January 9) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.  

The identity of the suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

The male shooter, 78, was not injured in the incident.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Burton and Officers J. Villareal and W. Huff reported:  

The shooter was approached by a male suspect who, at gunpoint, demanded the male's wallet.  As the male gave the suspect his wallet, he also produced a pistol and fired several shots at the suspect and his vehicle.  The suspect then fled the scene in a light-colored pickup truck.  

A short time later, a male was found in a pickup truck in the 1600 block of Collingsworth.  He had sustained gunshot wounds.  Further investigation and information provided to officers determined the vehicle and the wounded male to be the suspect and his vehicle.  The suspect was then transported by HFD paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
