Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1000 Hackney


January 23, 2017 - Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 1000 Hackney at about 4:25 p.m. Sunday (January 22).

The identity of the female victim, 59, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer O. Bledsoe reported:

The driver of a Buick Enclave was traveling southbound on Hackney when the driver ran the stop sign and struck a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on Jefferson.  The passenger of the Corolla was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Further investigation revealed the stop sign that the driver initially ran had fallen to the ground and was not visible. The City of Houston's Public Works Department was notified of the stop sign and a temporary fix was made by officers on the scene.  The driver was evaluated at the scene but showed no signs of intoxication. 

The investigation is continuing.
