Suspect Arrested, Charged in 1996 Fatal Shooting at 7731 Mesa


July 26, 2017 - A suspect charged and wanted for the murder of a man that occurred at 7731 Mesa #7 about 1:45 a.m. on August 31, 1996 is now in custody.
 
The suspect, Ariel Arreola Ramirez (H/m, 43), is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court.  A photo of Rarmirez is not currently available.
 
The victim, Carmelo Salvador, 60, of the above address, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
HPD Cold Case Squad Sergeant J. Parker reported:
 
Mr. Salvador was shot to death at his apartment at the above address.  The initial investigation identified Ramirez as a suspect in this case and, on October 16, 1996, he was charged with murder.  However, Ramirez was believed to have fled to Mexico and all efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.  
 
On March 31, 2017, Ramirez attempted to re-enter the United States in Laredo, Texas.  U.S. Marshals arrested Ramirez on the 1996 murder warrant and he was subsequently transported to the Harris County jail.
