July 31, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 7200 Calais about 9:15 a.m. on Sunday (July 30).  

The identity of the male victim, 36, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Williams and Officer D. Ashford reported:  

The male victim was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on eastbound on the South Loop East service road and ran the red light at the intersection of Calais.  A blue Hyundai Elantra, traveling southbound on Calais, had the green light and entered the intersection the South Loop and struck the pickup truck.  The pickup then struck a traffic pole.  The driver of the pickup truck (victim) was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  The female passenger of the pickup was also transported to Ben Taub with major injuries.  

The investigation is continuing.
