Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 7500 Janak


June 12, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7500 Janak about 4:10 a.m. on Saturday (June 10).  

The suspect, Jose Pineda (H/m, 29), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 351st State District Court.

The identity of the male victim, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer T. Van reported:  

Pineda was driving a gray Infinity G37 eastbound on Janak when, for unknown reasons, he veered out of his lane and struck an unoccupied white Jeep parked on the south side of the street.  The Infinity then struck a tree in front of a residence on the north side of the street and then ended up back on the street.  The rear right passenger of the Infinity died at the scene.  Pineda fled on foot, but was later taken into custody in the 1600 block of South Park Drive.
