Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1200 Gulf Freeway


October 3, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1200 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) that occurred about 11:40 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 2).
 
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
 
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer G. Anderson reported:
 
According to witnesses, a pedestrian (victim) was attempting to cross several moving lanes of traffic when he was struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced him deceased. 
 
The driver of the Suburban left the scene, however about 25 minutes later called from nearby stating he had struck someone or something.  Officers met the caller and learned he was the driver of the vehicle that had struck the victim.  He stated he became lost while attempting to return to the scene of the crash.  The driver was brought back to the scene where an officer with the HPD DWI Task Force administered a field sobriety test.  No signs of intoxication were observed.
 
There are no charges in this incident, as the investigation is continuing.
