Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 6900 Sam Houston Parkway East


September 5, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 6900 Sam Houston Parkway East service road (Beltway 8) about 3:20 a.m. on August 30.  

The suspect, Daniel Rivera (H/m, 21), is charged with murder in the 176th State District Court.  A photo of Rivera, courtesy of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, is attached to this news release.  

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer T. Riley reported:  

Rivera was driving a gray Chevrolet Impala eastbound on the Sam Houston Parkway service road and fleeing from HPD patrol officers.  The Impala turned left onto Old Humble Road, failed to stay in a single lane and struck a concrete pillar.  One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger was transported by HFD paramedics to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in an unknown condition.  Rivera was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in an unknown condition.
