"A Month of Service" Online Workshops Address Legal Topics of Interest During the Pandemic

February 3, 2021 -- The Department of Neighborhoods invites the public to register for “A Month of Service” free online workshops covering a wide range of legal topics of particular interest during the pandemic.

The monthly series is sponsored by the department in partnership with Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corporation, Harris County Appraisal District, Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office, Houston Volunteer Lawyers, TSU Earl Carl Institute, Lone Star Legal Aid, and the Houston Bar Association.

The workshops are intended for informational purposes only and are not forums for legal advice.

Topics
The workshop topics include: Eviction and Tenant Rights, Workers’ Rights, Child Custody and Divorce, Consumer Concerns & Bankruptcy, Immigration Concerns During COVID-19, Wills & Estate Planning, Holographic Wills During COVID-19, Inherited Property, Foreclosure Prevention, and Property Tax Protest Hearings.

The series also offers First-time Homebuyer Education classes and Coffee and Conversation sessions with a focus on neighborhood issues.

In addition, the Amateur Hour will entertain attendees with presentations of poetry, music, dance and other arts for a moment of relief from the issues of the day.

February 16 – How to Handle Inherited Property (Clearing Title & Probate), 1-3 p.m.
Feb. 18 – Immigration Concerns During COVID-19, 1-3 p.m.
Feb. 23 – Create Your Own Estate Plan in a Time of COVID-19, 1-3 p.m.
Feb. 24 – Coffee and Conversation – Neighborhood Concerns, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Feb. 25 – Foreclosure Prevention & Mortgage Protection, 1-3 p.m.
Feb. 25 – Amateur Arts Hour -  Arts Presentations by Residents, 6-8 p.m.
