How to Request Public Information
Welcome to the City of Houston Municipal Courts Department’s Public Information Office. Our office is available to assist you Monday - Friday, 8am -5pm. We are located at 1400 Lubbock Street, Rm 203, Houston, Texas 77002. Questions regarding Public Information Requests may be directed to 713.247.5479.

We have set forth the following tips to help you make a successful Public Information Request:

Written request should include:

  • Defendants full name
  • Date of Birth
  • Texas Drivers License (If available)
  • Citation or Case Number (If available)
  • Include the requestor’s contact information.

Request can only include documents or other information that is already in existence.

Any questions regarding your request may be directed to the Public Information Office by dialing 713-247-5479, Monday – Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

What Requestors Can Expect After a Request is Made

The Public Information Office will "promptly" respond to your request. Requests are generally completed within 10 business days. However, request may exceed the 14 business days depending on the amount of information you have requested.

Completed request can be delivered by:

  • Fax (Non-Certified documents)
  • Email (Non-Certified documents)
  • Mail (Certified and Non-Certified documents)
  • In Person (Certified and Non-Certified documents)

Section 552.003(1)(B) of the Government Code excludes the judiciary from the Public Information Act. Section 552.0035 of the Government code specifically provides that access to judicial records is governed by rules adopted by the Supreme Court of Texas or by other applicable laws and rules.

Costs for Public Information Records are regulated by the City of Houston Municipal Code; Houston, Texas, Code of Ordinances, Chapter 2 - ADMINISTRATION , ARTICLE IV. - CITY RECORDS, DIVISION 4.- COPIES GENERALLY; Sections 2-96 – 2-100.
