Shelter Updates During Hurricane Laura

RECENT UPDATES

Update 8/25/20:

Wednesday, 8/26, 2020: BARC will be closed for all services with the exception of emergencies and pick-ups from our Foster Office or Rescue/Transfers. Please note that no services or pick-ups will be available from 12pm to 2pm on Wednesday.

Thursday, 8/27/2020: BARC will be closed for all services.

At this time, BARC is currently still open until 5pm today for Adoptions, Foster or Rescue Pick-Up, and emergency services only. If you are a current BARC Foster and need to pick up supplies for your foster pet in preparation of hunkering down or evacuating, today will be the last day to do so. Limited quantities of pet food, crates, and puppy pads are available to fosters while supplies last. Please check your emails for pick-up directions.

BARC continues to insure that the necessary plans are in place for all animals remaining on-site at BARC to be cared for and for essential crewmembers to stay overnight if necessary. In addition, BARC is working closely with City Officials and other local animal organizations to determine possible pet-related needs at emergency evacuation shelters. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Update 8/24/20:

Out of an abundance of caution, BARC has cancelled all non-emergency intake services as we prepare for a possible influx of animals affected by the storms in the Gulf of Mexico. At this time, other services have not been not affected, however this is subject to change as we continue to monitor this highly fluid situation. Please keep a close eye on our social media and website for the latest updates.
