Culture Change Coalition

Purpose The Coalition is a cross-functional working group of City employees whose charge is to increase awareness and understanding of culture-related concerns within and across City departments. The Coalition will also facilitate citywide resolution of issues and challenges through assessment, engagement, collaboration, and information-sharing.

To establish a climate of close collaboration among all departments to share ideas that will effect and sustain positive change in workplace culture.

Roles and Expectations of Coalition Members 
The Coalition will include City employees who are at pay grade level 21 and above and have a broad range of knowledge and experience in leading a large-scale change process. The responsibilities of the Coalition will be to:

  • Attend monthly strategic planning meetings, as scheduled
  • Actively participate in Coalition initiatives and facilitate events, including organization of initiatives and development of meeting schedules and agendas
  • Share their knowledge and experience with other Coalition members to fulfill the established vision, mission, goals and future work of the Coalition
  • Identify internal discussion leaders for Coalition initiatives to achieve desired goals, as defined by discussion topics
  • Serve as liaisons for the departments they represent to communicate status updates and gather information from department leaders/stakeholders for problem resolution
  • Conduct site visits of City departments and collaborate with department leaders and advisory board members to deploy solutions that will address culture challenges
  • Assist the Coalition in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of city-wide issues
  • Participate in the development of needs assessments, surveys and other data-collection methods to assess needs and to measure progress of initiatives
  • Promote Coalition initiatives to departments and employees to help build trust and confidence in City culture

Coalition Membership Process

  • Membership is open to City employees who are at pay grade level 21 and above
  • Participation is voluntary and is granted based on self-nomination by the employee
  • Employees must receive approval to join the Coalition from their immediate supervisor or designee
  • Employees must receive approval to join the Coalition from their immediate supervisor or designee
  • Employees must register for and attend one of two Coalition Kickoff Meetings in order to join as active members of the Culture Change Coalition
How to Join

If you are interested in helping to facilitate city-wide culture change, please register for and attend the Coalition Kickoff Meeting at Office of Talent & Organizational Development (OT & OD). Attendance at the Coalition Kickoff Meeting is required in order to join as an active member of the Culture Change Coalition.
